About this Project

The Christ the Teacher project represents the realization of Franciscan University’s vision to establish a signature centerpiece on their campus. Designed as a multifunctional space, it integrates classrooms, conference rooms, and worship areas under one roof. Harris Masonry’s scope included sealing and insulating the building envelope and cladding it with a sophisticated façade of multi-patterned modular face brick and architectural precast concrete, sourced from Concrete Fabricators of Wheeling, WV. Plaza and patio pavers were provided and expertly installed by Ambrose Industries.
To meet the complex craftsmanship demands of this project, Harris Masonry assembled a highly skilled and purpose-driven team. From field supervision to precision masonry layout, scaffolding design, and material handling logistics, the most experienced personnel were strategically assigned to ensure the highest standards of workmanship. Collaboration with trusted suppliers such as Concrete Fabricators, Morelli Brick, and SpecMix enabled seamless delivery of high-quality materials on schedule, supporting a unified and efficient project execution. The project presented numerous logistical and installation challenges, particularly in lifting and setting intricate precast components. These obstacles were addressed through thoughtful planning and a blend of traditional rigging techniques and innovative solutions, including the use of cranes, wheeled scaffolds, and rollers to maneuver and position elements within tight interior spaces. While timelines are always a consideration, the level of architectural detail and quality required by this project demanded a meticulous pace. High-caliber craftsmanship cannot be expedited by simply increasing labor; instead, it necessitated patience, expertise, and precision. Exceptional craftsmanship defined the masonry package. Highlights included diagonal, interwoven brick diaper patterns using multiple brick colors; structurally sound, through-wall brick arches; and a range of architectural precast elements such as sills, lintels, cornices, copings, and custom-engraved pieces—all meticulously integrated into the building’s interior and exterior design.
